Wig Review-Janet Collection Natural Me Human Hair Blend Lace Front Wig – Ann

OH babes. I am so in love right now. I snagged the Ann wig from the really lovely Janet collection Natural me line from Divatress.

First up, let’s talk about the store Divatress. Divatress has become one of my go to places on the net for hair. They have a HUGE selection of wigs at varying price points and styles. Easy navigation, their customer service is pretty ding dang good too. They offer some bomb coupon codes and have reward points. Just on my last purchase of this wig and a few other things, I saved about enough to cover my shipping cost.

NOW let us discuss Ann.

From the website:

Product Description
Deep Part Lace
100% Hand Tied Swiss Lace
Ear to Ear Soft Swiss Lace
Special Knotting on Back Nape
Natural Hairline & Natural Yaky Texture

She comes in standard colors, black, brown, a nice caramel ombre and a burgundy and, the silver foxiness you’re about to lay eyes on.

[image of the author: Brown skinned NB femme wearing a cute silver fox bob wig and smiling a bit]

OKAY now I mean……….I’m feeling myself okay. I’m feeling some Big Silver Daddy Energy.

And yes. Going full steely grey without an ombre root is a thing it is a statement. I had wanted a whole ass different wig but she was sold out literally everywhere after a lot of glowing reviews so, I found Ann and I love her.

Right out of the box I love the texture of the hair. It feels like a thicker version of my natural blown out hair. Slightly crinkly, fluffy, soft. The cap construction is pretty usual, inside the part the combs are a bit too close to the front of the wig for my liking so I might move them. Without a wig slip

She is VERY big head friendly. I have an average sized head (I forgot to put my wig grip on this morning) and had to tighten her up quite a bit for a secure fit.

The lace is decent. It says “soft” lace but it is not extra soft if you get me. It isn’t as scratchy as I’ve found some brands the shade is a nice sheer shade.

Pros:

  • Soft and fluffy
  • Gorgeous color mix. They really nailed a luxurious silver fox colorway.
  • Inexepensive. Most places are selling this unit for between 25-35$ and she retails for 49$.
  • Doesn’t need a whole lot of work can be worn right out the box.
  • Just a really pretty wig.

Cons:

  • AH LAWD she sheddin. I am not sure about the other colors but, this one sheds like hell.
  • The cap may just be too dang big. Without a wig grip, if you have an average to small head security is gonna be an issue.

I highly recommend this particular wig for folks who don’t want to mess with baby hairs or securing a unit with glue or whatever. If you don’t have wig customization skills, she is real cute right out of the box. If you are an older person who wants to try out going grey, do it. Or if you are in fact Old AF and just want to be a silver fox, do it.

Overall I am totally in love with Ann and might try out another wig in the line.

10/10 would buy again.

Do Overs….End of the year faves. Skin Care edition.

Hi. I know. I KNOW I done fell the whole hell off. I’m here.

So let’s talk year end favorite stuff. Skin care edition.

There will be affiliate links with * near.

FIRST UP let’s talk about skin care faves of 2019.

Cleansing.

I am a double cleanse devotee and have been casting about for great oil cleansers. My faves from 2019″

Palmers Cocoa Butter Skin Therapy Cleansing Oil, Face, Rosehip Fragrance.* Pros- very accessible. Inexpensive. At $10.49 from Amazon, one bottle of this lasted me months. Does a nice job removing even a WHOLE lot of liner and mascara. Cons- scented. If you are careful about freelanced products don’t do it G. Overall though, I went through 2 bottles this year.

NYX Cosmetics Stripped Off Cleansing Balm. If you have used the TAKE THE DAY OFF CLEANSING BALM* this product comes in solid form, and you use it the same way. It is a solid and you rub it between your hands then on your face. The NYX is SUCH a better deal bro. If you wear full coverage or a lot of long lasting or waterproof stuff, that Nyx balm is the SHIT yo. One tub will last a long long time. Absolutely a great option and in my view better than the Clinique thing.

Honorable mention, the OG cleansing oil I used the The Face Shop Rice Water BrightLight Cleansing Oil.* This is a GREAT entry oil to try out. I also highly recommend if you don’t wear foundation. It will struggle a bit with waterproof liner/mascara but will get it done. According to Amazon I first purchased this in 2016 and I’ve used a few more bottles yearly since.

Second Cleanser.

Before we go here. Can I just say that my FAVE cleanser of all time is expensive as fuck. My philosophy in terms of cleansers has always been, I just want it to get the job done. Then this shit came along and god damn it. I am kinda ruined. BUT it isn’t the only one. I’ll get to it last.

I cleanse in the morning and switch off two cleansers from Garnier. First one is the SkinActive Soothing Milk Face Wash with Rose Water. This milky cleanser is so soothing. BUT it also is scented but not heavily to my nose. This one is great for days when my face is being weird or peely. From the same line ….um. Apparently this one isn’t being made anymore it isn’t on the official website. Well shit. anyway it is the SkinActive Face Wash with Aloe Juice.* This was a cleanser I tried for nighttime and nah. But for morning it just leaves my fave cleansed of the night before (my skin care, drool whatever) and my skin isn’t too stripped, feels clean, bouncy and hydrated. I’m gonna have to stock up.

Honorable mention for morning. Tree Hut Skincare Purifying Cleansing Gel, Balancing Rosewater*. Now this one is a little more cleansing than the Aloe one but, I like it. It is a great prep for matte full faceballs make up.

NIGHT TIME. THIS SHIT RIGHT HERE.

Y’all. Youth To The People Kale Superfood Cleanser* – Gentle Gel Face Wash with Spinach and Green Tea. THIS SHIT RIGHT HERE GOD DAMN IT. First of all, this bitch is 36 goddamn dollars for an 8 oz bottle. Right around my birthday this year, I grabbed a 10$ travel size (we’ll talk about it) with my birthday Sephora purchase. Here’s the thing about cleansers. If they promise you baby butt skin in ONE USE..skip it. I’ve been getting into more clean beauty and I like the ingredients. And then I noticed after about let’s say three months of use, my face was like YASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS BITCH. For YEARS I’ve never been able to use one cleanser and have it stay effective for months. This shit…is so good. It has helped keep my skin more clear. I rarely get the same level of pimples as before. My face always feels very clean, hydrated, happy. God. Damn. It. THIRTY SIX dollars. So disrespectful but I feel real good. BUT good news is, you can get a travel bottle for 10$. Since it is my nighttime cleanser (it is a little too cleansing for me for morning) and the small bottle lasts me months. I’m still mad tho.

Serums.

I’ve done a lot of serums that were meh. I have stumbled on a few things that have worked SO WELl.

First one, The Ordinary Alpha Arbutin 2% + Ha.*  There are a lot of things I love about The Ordinary. High quality skin care that is quite extensive and pocketbook friendly. The downside of this is that they don’t do a lot of explanation. You HAVE to do your research. We’ll talk more about this later. In my research I was recommended this product to help with my quest to deal with my hyperpigmentation and facial scarring. Y’all. I’ve been using this product for about 6 months. I don’t use it twice a day as recommended, it didn’t agree with my other stuff but holy shit. My skin…..I wish I’d taken before photos but, I’ve tried so many things and nothing has worked like this. I had a purply black newish scar on my forehead and after a month, that bitch straight up peeled OFF. Left no other mark. My chin scars are faded, my forehead scar is faded. And more impressively, though I do still get the dark marks they aren’t immediately the super dark black/purple kind. They are a few shades darker brown than my face and they fade. I’m on my second bottle.

Moisturizers.

Am moisturizer. Gosh. Daytime. I am only this year a convert to the keeping my SPF and moisturizer separate. I did not want this to make a difference but damn it did.

First up, my holy damn grail after going through TWO minis. Sunday Riley C.E.O. Vitamin C Rich Hydration Cream.* I am not really a sucker for high end but, I used this cream from Jan-April. DAMN IT DAMN IT DAMN IT. It is so good. My allergy riddled face was not irritated but I still got the benefits of the vitamin c. I was SO HYDRATED. Y’all this bitch is SIXTY FIVE damn dollars. I also hate that it is in a jar. I could literally slather my face in it but, it really didn’t take a lot to spread nicely and leave my itchy, peely, irritated ass face SO PLUMP AND MOIST. Shit.

Y’all. I’m using a perfectly -nice- day time moisturizer. InstaNatural Vitamin C Moisturizer. Like…I kind of don’t totally love the finish but it is nice. It hit the buttons I wanted, Vit C, no dimethecone. It was easy on my bank account. But it is not Sunday Riley so I hate it…..I KNOW this is unreasonable but y’all. Shit.

My PM moisturizer eh. I’m using a perfectly okay one but I’ve yet to be wowed.

Few other honorable mentions:

Lips. My lips have been SO TERRIBLE. My work moved to a new building that I think is dryer than the last and my lips have just been in terrible shape.

Aritaum Ginger Sugar Overnight Lip Mask. I have been through two tins of this. It is thick, not slippery and awesome. Link is gone but it is good.

Basically, 2019 has exposed just how much of a bourgie bitch I am and I’m kinda okay with it.

Coming 2020. A skin care series for those who are lost, poor or otherwise confused.

MORE NATURAL HAIR SHITS.

I hope the new year brings all of you what you need.

Love,

Shannon

Aromaleigh- Indie Make up Review

Hello darlings.

Long ago yours truly was SUPER HEAVILY into indie make up. I bought a lot of it and sort of fell off of it.

Not long ago Aromaleigh came across my FB feed and I hadn’t bought anything from them in years and I made a wee tiny order.

Well after my order came I was fairly violently reminded why I stopped buying a lot of indie.

So let’s go.

I purchased a sample of the Porcelana Oil Control Mattifying Primer PowderSPIRITS WEPT Lip Lush and a lip balm.

Let’s talk about the primer first. Frankly I was really hesitant to order because at a glance, obviously this is not really for brown people. The face stuff from this brand is not really brown friendly and hasn’t been, wasn’t when I first ordered years ago and I don’t know what I was thinking. From the site:

Porcelana Oil Control Mattifying Primer Powder is a Magnesium-based translucent primer powder which is finely milled with a creamy feel. A thin layer of Porcelana applied to your problem areas can greatly help in keeping your image of perfection… all day long. This product is based on Aromaleigh v1’s “Porcelaine” Primer- it has the same exact formula, but we’ve adjusted the 3 tone levels to be more user-friendly. Instead of coming in light-medium, medium and medium-deep, Porcelana is available in light, medium and deep.

Ahem. This is the “deep”

20180118_115358.jpg

[image caption: a baggy labeled deep porcelana oil control primer powder, set on brown skin]

Ahem um.

Okay this should be renamed. There is literally nothing “deep” about this shade. It is deep beige? So opening my pretty little package I just sort of stared at it because…look at it.

Now I did try it on my face. I’m experienced with primer powders, I’ve been doing that Jackie Aina trick of powdering pre-foundation for years. First impression when I put it on, holy shit this is ashy. It was not cute and I had to really work my foundation to cover the ash and STILL got some flashback. Not awesome.

Also, it made my face greasier than normal. When trying out primers, I do nothing else different to my face. Daily I wash my face with cold water, I put on my Olay Total Effects 7-in-1 Anti-Aging Daily Face Moisturizer With SPF 30 (review soon), use either Maybelline New York Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser Primer (review also coming soon) or Pixi Flawless & Poreless Primer, use powder then foundation. Normally, at this point in my face I maybe blot before I leave work but otherwise after about 6 hours my face goes from matte to satin.

This primer had me at full greasy shiny in less than 4 hours.

I honestly shouldn’t have bought it, after reading the page on the site about picking foundation shades and seeing this:

Deep (Aromaleigh Level Four): Your skintone is darker, possibly of mediterranean or other ethnic descent, and you tan easily.

“Other ethnic/tan easily” is cosmetic code for nah. this is not for Black people darker than tan. So Aromaleigh for us browner folks in terms of face stuff, skip it. Just don’t.

However, the lip and eye products are so beautiful.

The liplush in Spirits Wept is such a perfect reddish brown nude for brown skin. If you don’t want a lipstick and want something with a bit of sheen and moisture this is the business. It is so close to my natural lip color I can’t even get a good photo. It has a slight lovely scent, goes on silky smooth. Definitely a great thing and I will buy more. I’ll probably grab a few more shades because a nice not streaky brown nude lip balm is a really great addition to your collection. Especially for folks who don’t really go for a lot of make up. If you want a bit of zoom but nothing like BAM POW LOOK, this is a great product for a great price.

As I remember now, this is a great brand for very beautiful eye color formulations. Hands down, Aromaleigh has my favorite color shifting eyeshadows. These are so beautiful and so soft and blendable. I have several and they are another thing I can recommend for brown skin. A wash of a nice colorshift on the lid, mascara and gloss and voila. Low key glam.

So overall, I’m generally pleased. We all know I LOVE my lippies and even the regular balm I got has been settled into regular rotation. I use it under my Rosebud balm on my lips before bed and my regular winter cracked mouth is healed. If you are darker than Rihanna, don’t bother with the face stuff.

Next time, I’ll review one of my all time fave indie companies Fyrinnae.

2017…look back at it Make up Edition

2017 hot garbage we know.

SO let’s talk about make up that rocked my lil world. *Again affiliate links, y’all know.

Foundation:

NYX PROFESSIONAL MAKEUP Total Control Drop Foundation. – Y’all. Y’ALL. 14$. The MOST adjustable coverage. I love this foundation. For drugstore, it is my holy grail even though it isn’t technically matte or long wear. A++

L’ORÉAL Infallible Pro-Matte 24HR Foundation. Honorable mention. This was my ride or die for a long time but, unfortunately when my skin cleared up it stopped being quite so awesome. Still HELLA good though.

Powders:

The Fiona Stiles INVISIBLE FINISH LOOSE SETTING POWDER is great. Not 26$ great, I picked mine up on super clearance at ULTA in the shade Sorrento. Finely milled, no flashback. Nice velvety finish. Ulta doesn’t carry it anymore but if you can find it discounted on Ebay yes. I’ve been using it under my foundation (we’ll talk about that later) and it is a very nice powder.

MAYBELLINE Fit Me Loose Finishing Powder. I picked this up in deep IN A DRUG STORE NEAR MY HOME, y’all that shit was amazing. So the powder is very finely milled, very soft and smooth. I’ve used a lot of loose powders and this one is right up there with my beloved Cover Fx matte powder. Even when I wear a satin finish foundation on occasion it keeps my face more matte than not. Even in the middle of the  period skin freak out, my face didn’t lose coverage or grease up. I def. recommend also it comes in a good variety of shades.

I don’t know if I’ve mentioned it but I spend a lot of time looking for a pressed powder that works for me somewhat close to Mac Blot Powder (holy grail powder) and this year I’ve gone through a few. My current go to fave with notes is the Wet N wild Photo Focus pressed powder. Okay first impression I found it a little hard to manage. It added coverage and is very easy to cake up in a bad way. Also the compact has no goddamn mirror.

HOLD UP.

HELLO ENGINEERS. Yes the little dome packaging is sleek, it has a weight in the hand that doesn’t say, this is cheap shit. BUT, do you know how hard it is to hold your phone up to your face, palm your powder AND put it on. Nah son.

That said, I used a super fluffy little kabuki rather than the puff and made sure to blot before powder and the finish is lovely. Velvety. Very pretty. I recommend this one for folks who wear little or no foundation. It will add a bit of coverage and keep you lookin smooth.

NEXT ONE (I KNORITE, powders and lip products man.)

Honorable mention: MAYBELLINE Fit Me Matte + Poreless Powder. This is the pressed powder and like the wet n wild can do you dirty if not applied carefully. That said it does give that silky velvet matte finish. Also super affordable. This one I don’t find in drugstores so much in my color.

Mascaras:

So I usually have a rotation of four or five mascaras depending on how I want my lashes to look. In the last few months I’ve been using ONE.

Rimmel Volume Accelerator Mascara, is a fucking ALL STAR. On the face of it, I thought I’d hate this mascara. This version has a huge brush, is very wet but y’all. First of all, it gives my lashes a lengthened fanned appearance. Also, I think it has indeed accelerated my lashes. I didn’t do before photos because I didn’t think I’d get effects. Even the Uniballer noticed my lashes look fuller. I want to try the serum too.

Wet N Wild Lash Renegade. It has a weird spiky brush with a wand and once I got the hang of it, I am very into the look. I like to wear fourteen pounds of mascara and I can with this without it getting too messy. WNW is cruelty free if that’s a thing you are into. It is cheap and hugely available. The only reason it isn’t my go to is because I have shaky hands and sometimes I can’t be having a spiky thing near my eyeballs. Love it. It is super good on the lower lash line for me, my bottom lashes are stumpy and this brush grabs them without being messy.

Lips:

I am a lip product FANATIC. Lipstick, lipgloss, balms, tinted balms YOU NAME IT! I love it.

First some all star balms. I suffer easily dehydrated lips. I have allergies and sometimes I mouth breath in my sleep and my lips crack.

A new favorite balm is the Badger Creamy Cocoa Cocoa Butter Lip Balm. I grabbed it on a whim and am very pleased. It goes on nice and thick, the cocoa butter melts right into your lips and they are very soft. It isn’t strongly flavored, it smells/tastes like unrefined cocoa butter. Also it makes an amazing matte lipstick remover and after scrub balm.

Alba Botanica Hawaiian Pineapple Quench Lip Balm.  Another newer fave. I love this one for nighttime under a heavy thick product. Nothing weird in it, it doesn’t taste/smell super strongly. This is a great balm for people who don’t like a beeswaxy or thick balm.

Gloss next. I don’t mind a matte lip but at heart I am a gloss person. I love a wet look shiny lip.

First up a brand new fave. The Milani Stellar Lights Holographic Lip Gloss. Y’ALL. I haven’t been looking at make up for a couple of months since we’re moving/saving dollars. However, to celebrate my little poetry book coming out I snagged this on a whim because it was blue and shiny. YO. First of all, how DARE they come out with a duochrome gloss that is also hella sparkly. Second of all, the depth of sparkle in it is gorgeous. This is the holo/duochrome I’ve been DREAMING ABOUT. The color shift is visible on naked lips and it’s just amazing. I will be buying all of them.

Pro tip for brown babes especially those with dark or not red lips. Glosses like these are AMAZING on non red lips. If you want more of a nude sparkle, go for a goldenish tone version. For real.

I’ve gone through two tubes of the BURT’S BEES Lip Shine this year. One in pucker and one in the brownish shade. I found the coverage to be buildable from totally sheer to tinted. This is another one in that browny shade if you have brown or dark lips is !!!. A tiny bit sticky which I don’t mind. It is very moisturizing to me. And shiny.

For high end, hands down my pants Mac Lipglass is my shit. I buy one probably once every couple of years for at least ten years now? My favorites are the kind of milky shades, the nudes. The high sparkle ones. My favorite of the last few years came from their Star Trek inspired collab. MAC Star Trek Dramatic Color Lipglass (Warp Speed Ahead). Not the best feeling but it is so pretty I don’t even care.

Shout outs to the two dollar store glitter glosses I have that have more glitter than the more expensive ones. Don’t sleep on the dollar store y’all. Especially for small things like glosses and nail polish.

What else?

OH I have bought and used concealers and primers. Normally I don’t do all that but sometimes I like to have them on hand.

For my brown folks with the blue toned hyperpigmentation. Baby, come here. Closer, listen to your Auntie. This shit right here. WILL block that blue/blackness so you can be great. My favorite color corrector of ALL FUCKING TIME. L.A. GIRL HD Pro Concealer

Y’all. If you are brown you want the orange. Start with a wee bit and play with it. SHIT WORKS. If you are tan down through medium beige, get the peach. If you are medium beige to very pale, get the peach and the white and mix them down.

To do undereye non hyperpigmentation things, I use NYX Professional Makeup Hi Definition Photo Concealer Wand. I grabbed it on sale and it is creamy, easy to blend for concealer noobs and is amazing.

Okay my loves. I will calm down. These are my absolute stand outs for new/recurring make up faves. Next it will be hair stuff.

Stay tuned.

Auntie loves you.

2017…..looking back.

2017 has been a giant trash fire.

So….yeah nope.

That said let’s talk about some of my favorite things.

Skincare up first. *Most of these will be affiliate links, Auntie needs coins cause bitches gotta eat.

Cleaners:

L’Oreal Pure Clay Cleanser Detox and Brighten. I am on my second tube of this and I really love it. Leaves my skin nice and clean, it lathers up nicely. It is a bit too perfumy but overall it does me good.

Garnier Clean+ Makeup Removing Lotion Cleanser Sensitive Skin. Y’all know (I will do a new reggie post soon) I double cleanse my face. I picked this up and am about done with a tube. It removes make up really nicely. I use this first. It is gentle enough that my skin stays moist but it does a good job on my long wear foundation. If you don’t wear fourteen pounds of mascara regularly, it gets off mascara well too.

First Aid Beauty Skin Rescue Deep Cleanser. SUCH a great mid/low Sephora type price cleanser. It does in fact deep clean but doesn’t leave my face stripped. This one is in heavy rotation I use it at least twice a week. It is nice and thick, has a great texture on the skin.

BIORÉ Charcoal Acne Cleanser.  This one is a winner with a few caveats. First one, my personal face is very suspicious of salicylic acid. I don’t use it a lot because my skin will get mega dehydrated. That said, I keep this cleanser on deck for hormonal breakouts. Or if my face just feels grody. It will clean the shit out of your face. Great low cost deep DEEP cleanser to have on hand.

GARNIER SkinActive Micellar Cleansing Water All-in-1 Cleanser & Makeup Remover.  When I first got this, I kind of hated it. I felt like it leaves a film, took WAY too much work to get my make up off because I wear a shitload. HOWEVER, it is really great to follow the make up removing lotion and it will get off ALL my seventeen pounds of mascara and liner without scrubbing. It is great to just get off any missed make up and I’ve been using it daily. If you have dry skin and don’t wear a lot of make up, this might be amazing for you.

Toners:

Now I am a relatively new convert to this step. That said. I’ve been trying some.

I use a 50/50 mix of Bragg USDA Organic Raw Apple Cider Vinegar, With The Mother  and filtered water. I actually feel personally attacked by this. Y’all. I HATE HATE HATE the smell of acv but, it works so well on my body. It works so nicely it makes me ANGRY. I legit get mad. The toner, balances my face and my skin just feels better using it. I used it for three months, took a month off and absolutely noticed a difference in the feel of my skin. I haven’t been able to do a shot of it a day but, baby steps. We’re gonna revisit it.

Moisturizers/serums/oils.

First up Vitamin C serums. My two favorites are Claire-ity 25% Vitamin C Serum with Hyaluronic Acid and Vitamin E and Vitamin C Serum with Hyaluronic Acid and Vitamin E – Anti-Aging Tropical Facial Serum by Umber.  They are almost identical. The Umber serum is a tad bit more liquidy but they perform the same for me. I like having my hyaluronic acid in with the vitamin C. This is another product I questioned the efficacy of. After I ran out of the Claireity I went without for a couple of months and yeah. It matters for my skin. Using vit c serum absolutely helps keep me from developing new hyperpigmentation, my skin is more even toned. Also my current hyperpigmentation smooths out way faster.

THE ORDINARY Buffet. I was on the fence about this one but stopped using it for a while. When it joins with all the other shit I put on my face, smoother skin. Plumper skin. Hydrated skin so I really do love it.

My FAVORITE facial oil isn’t available online. I use a CVS house brand brightening oil. Y’all. It is the SHIT. I was underwhelmed with Argan oil for my face, I honestly grabbed it on a whim and I am very impressed. I’m not sure about the brightening powers but, using it has absolutely upped the general moisturization of my face. HA WAIT I lied. Find it here.

Masks:

Get a snack this is taking a while. For masks I keep quite a few on hand depending on what my skin needs. Some are interchangeable some not so much.

I use sheet masks a lot. I picked up this multipack and y’all. I especially recommend using these after any deep cleansing, deep exfoliation or peels. Mostly, I use them for the hardcore moisture. Also it is just relaxing.

Next up some hardcore ride or dies.

FORMULA 10.0.6 Deep Down Detox Ultra Cleansing Mud Mask. This is marketed for teens and if you’ve been  here a minute, y’all have seent it. This brand is marketed for teens but I bust it out when I’ve got hormonal breakouts or my skin is just trippin. I love it.

Charcoal & Black Sugar Facial Polishing Mask. For surface scrubby exfoliation (for me it helps with my peely scaly ass face) this is really great. Not too gritty, leaves my skin soft and fresh. Also the price!!!

Another OH SHIT MY FACE mask is the ORIGINS Out of Trouble 10 Minute Mask to Rescue Problem Skin. Y’all. Y’ALL. This shit right here is reserved for my OH FUCK OH FUCK WTF IS THAT SHIT moments. It is powerful and not for the sensitive of faceballs. It is intense enough at drying up pimples that now that my skin is generally clear I reserve it for spot treating bumps, mainly anything with a whitehead, or those shitty under the skin bumps. It works. It will make your eyes water.

I use other masks mainly for relaxation. For instance those packet sauna masks and shit. The Montagne Jeunesse Red Hot Earth Sauna Masque is one of my favorite things on earth. It doesn’t do  much but I love the sensation of self heating so much I will buy them by the handful for strictly relaxing purposes.

Moisturizers- eh none this year have blown my socks off.

So let’s stop there cause I got more and ain’t nobody got time for that.

Come back probably Monday for body stuff!!

What are your faves?

A few quickie reviews.

I’ve tried out a few new things recently and nothing that needs their own entries so how about some quickies?

Last month I tried out the monthly snack box Graze (my referral link for new folks) basically it’s a monthly sampler of super healthy snacks. It is somewhat customizable with some major caveats. If you’re like me and don’t like nuts that much, there’s not a whole lot on offer. I liked two things out of I think 8 and I gave my partner the other things and he didnt’ care for them much. That said, if you do like nuts I do think it’s a nice deal. If you find yourself in need of snacks at work or whatever, it’s a nice little treat box. I believe right now if you sign up, you can get one free via my affiliate link.

The next thing is the Ulta Ultra Rich hand and nail cream. I have the Coconut almond milk one and y’all. It is 12$ and well worth it to me. The scent is light, not super perfumy and the texture is very rich and creamy without being greasy. This is the hand cream I use at work. I have really super dry hands that crack and this helps keep my hands more supple during the day. If you don’t have super dry skin, this will just feel super luxe and keep your hands the way they are. Don’t expect miracles but it is good stuff.

I’ve been using a new nighttime moisturizer for about a month and y’all…I mean like…so. The NO7 Lift & Luminate Night Cream. Y’all. for 25$ this cream is super rich and feels thick on the skin. I use this last at night and in the month I’ve been using it regularly I’m seeing that my skin is absolutely softer, I have a few patches on my face where I get these irritated thick dry skin over ingrown hairs and this stuff softens that up.I use it all down my neck and onto the tops of my boobs. It is a really wonderful rich cream and it takes only a little bit to go around and the jar will last a while. Like every other goddamn moisturizer, I’d prefer it to come in a pump or tube but yanno.

Now I have to show y’all something that is expensive AF and that I am so in love with it hurts. Like, I did not want to like it, but I friggin love it. The Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask. From Fall through probably May my lips are super prone to cracking. Doesn’t matter how hydrated I am, if I don’t’ have a cold it is allergies or just how my body is. It hurts and leaves discoloration around the corners of my mouth. Normally at night I use a combo of a good heavy, waxy lip balm (generic Burts Bees type or the Eos balms) with a generous (thick and gross) layer of Rosebud Salve on my lips. I don’t know what the super secret formula of that is, but it works. I like the original flavor.

NOW.

I picked up some samples of the Agave lip mask from Sephora a while back……..holy shit wow.

I don’t care about the colors, I slopped that shit on and know that I mouth breathed all night because I was congested. Not only were my lips supple in the morning there was STILL product on them. Normally I’d tell myself, please don’t buy that shit again, but, I want to keep being able to wear ALL my fave lip looks so I’m likely going to pick some up.

I have some other new skin care stuff I’m trying. I’ve kept my promise to myself and have some really great stuff stashed at home to tryout.

What else is coming up?

I’m putting together a page that will have links to indie POC artists because that is important to me. Keep an eye out for that.

MMm what else? I dunno y’all. Stuff.

Have you tried anything new and awesome lately?

You can tell me.

Struggle Bus Naturals-Twist Wig Review

Hello beautiful people.

Today I’ve got a wig review.

I’m calling it a struggle bus review because this style is SO great, but I can’t braid y’all. I gave myself not great twists one time and regretted it immediately.

Twisted lace front wigs are really great for folks who:

  • Can’t braid
  • Have sensitive edges
  • Are prone to migraines
  • Don’t want to commit the time.

The particular wig I have, I’ve had since last summer and now that it’s a bit beat up looks really great. All of these links are affiliate links. If you don’t like the ones I show, google similar names and you’ll probably find one suited to your needs.

First a photo (not full length, my twist wig is very long, brushes my booty and I’m about 5’3″):

twists

Photo of a brown skinned person with glossy iips, wearing a long twisted hair style.

Okay, first the cons:

Most of the twist style wigs I’ve looked at need some DIY love before wearing. Mine came with all of the twists sewn down and I had to very carefully cut a lot of little stitches.

You’re going to want to be super careful cutting the lace. You don’t want to loosen any of the twists up front.

When I first got it, I also spent some time loosening the twists up just a little. I wanted them to be a bit puffier. I’ve noticed in the last year or so, that some manipulation has made the twists a bit fluffier.

If you like a super customized hairline, this style is not for you.

One other little thing, it’s hard to find these in super amazing colors. But stick around to the end for a solution to that.

Pros.

Super easy to maintain. You can have unicorn long hair, and not spend all your time detangling or whatever. Very slip on and go.

You can do some updo, but I tend to not.

It is SUPER lightweight. Like shocking light. I don’t get any headaches wearing this style of wig.

Not nearly as expensive as going to get twists done every however many weeks.

Easier maintenance of your hair underneath your protective style.

If you want to tighten the twists after a long while of wear, go along and snip any fly aways then lightly steam the wig and twist.

Now let me mention a few other things.

Since I wear mostly inexpensive wigs that have kinda rough lace and I have sensitive edges let me show you my favorite wig accessory.

Milano Collection WiGrip Extra Hold Wig Comfort Band. Y’all. Y’ALL. Y’all know I hate paying retail but I have three of these and they are worth every penny. I have struggled with my edges and unfortunately last year I had a bout of pretty bad anxiety and wound up with a bald spot. If you’ve worn wigs a lot you know the combs/clips can be murder on your edges. This lil thing helps. Basically you put on  your wig cap over this and that. You can tuck the combs right between the cap and the band.  Also it can help mitigate any friction or irritation with the synthetic lace.

Also, if you find wigs a bit too big, this can help with fit.

Now how about some wigs?

The closest to (I may have the version from last season) what I have is this one.  My piece is also heat safe and a few times I wore the ends curled.

If you prefer braids this style is super pretty. Although I would not wear it behind my hairline like it is on the model.

Now let’s talk about what if you want fancy colors?

OKAY, so I know this is probably old news, but I discovered that there are pre-braided crochet braid wig caps. Look here.

Y’all, being that I can’t braid I never thought about crochet braids until I saw those. This means that I, non braiding ass me can do some crochet braid WIGS Y’ALL.

I mean you can buy pre-twisted/loc’d hair. Look. Seriously. We know you can buy synthetic hair in amazing colors so basically, this is freedom for a lot of us non braiding ass people.

So my lovelies. My fellow struggle bus naturals, we catching up.

Oh yes, yes y’all, we ALL up in it.

I encourage y’all do to some youtubeing. There are TONS of tutorials for making crochet braid wigs, on doing them in general. Etc.

That’s all darlings.

Next time, I’ll do a slow roll LOC tutorial and talk about why I am so about the protective styling.

I love y’all.

Some More Brown Femme Goodness

I’m still kind of depressed about poor folks stuff so how about I do some quickie links/short reviews of beauty stuff?

Yes.

OH wait before I start, no your eyes are not deceiving you. I did a little redesigning today. If you click in, I’ve moved some of my affiliate stuff down to the left, and up top you can see some of my linked pages. Let me know about the color, the stark white actually makes my head hurt, but if it’s hard for y’all to read holler at me.

OKAY NOW.

Brown Femme goodness.

Okay, can we start with how ass over tea kettle I am with Nyx Cosmetics right now? Recently a CVS opened in my neighborhood and they carry ALL the fuckin Nyx. Like….y’all the first time I went I totally freaked out.

So the major thing I love about Nyx beyond affordability is that they make enough of a range of things lip colors, that you can really stock up (especially those kick ass CVS sales) and experiment without being out like 18$ to find out you hate something.

Let me show you what Nyx lippies I’m loving right now.

First off, I LOVE their Butter Glosses.Since I’m suddenly SUPER into nudes, this shade called Ginger Snap is my current fave shiny nude. Honestly, it is almost the exact color of my face when I put it on my lips.

I’m also a HUGE fan of the Nyx Lingerie lips. As far as liquid lipsticks go this is the most comfortable one I own.

I also love their lipsticks, all of them.

And let’s talk about some tips.

In terms of make up, if you’re not ready for extra eye looks yet, lipsticks are a fantastic way to feel a bit more edgy and let’s talk about some ways to find stuff that is adventurous and won’t cost an arm and a leg.

The Nyx Cosmic Metal Lipcreams look AMAZING to me. I haven’t tried them yet but I’m desperate to. And also if you can’t wear a metallic blue lip at work, pack it in your bag and put it on when you go.

I’m also really impressed by the Maybelline Color Sensation lipsticks. I have two and the Grey about it one is a GREAT griege nude for brown folks. You’re not gonna get like, high end payoff, but they are super great for folks just getting into wilder lips.

Next up, JCat Wonder Lip Paints. I was immediately obsessed with the OCC Lip Tars when they first came out. Those are expensive AF. These are not and honestly, pro tip. If you can find some containers you can split them with your Femme friends and not really run out. It’s a huge amount of product for very little money. Also the Jcat Soft Matte lip stuff is really pretty. Messy to apply at first, but so gorgeous.

What other stuff?

OH okay if you’re like me and don’t really do all the highlight and contour let me tell you a secret. One of my secret make up weapons is a couple of good bronzers.

A couple of bronzes can do wonders for your makeup wardrobe. A little on the cheeks, nose, forehead and you’ve got a little bit of a glow. Use it for nude eyeshadow looks.

For oily skinned folks, I do not recommend using, the type of bronzer with a lot of sparkle. When your face starts to grease up, it can make it look weird. Ask me how I know (tragic day of looking like a greasy disco ball and not ina fun way)

I have two of these Rimmel London Natural bronzers. They are old and are very pretty. Sun Bronze warms up very nicely on my skin and gives me that slightly accented glow type look. It is really subtle on me and buildable.

I also REALLY love the Nyx matte bronzers. I have the second to darkest one and I need a new one soon. It is perfect for me when I’m not doing my whole super matte creepy fake looking dolly skin look.

To apply I use a very big very fluffy brush. I like my bronzers to be pretty diffuse and not very concentrated. I can’t find a link, but it’s like an overgrown Kabuki brush. Stout handle and big very fluffy brush head. I think I got them in the clearance bin at Big Lots.

Lately, I’ve had a hankering to recreate some 90s looks I wore when I was a teenager/young adult. There is glitter involved and I’m kinda hype for it.

The weather here has been pretty hot so I’ve mainly been wearing a lot of dual colored cat eyes and hot lippies. My face is greasy as all get out but I’m trying to roll with it until the weather gets cooler.

I’ve also gone back to the L’Oreal Pro matte. My color is Soft Sable. It’s just the teensiest bit too light, but the only other brown shade is way too dark. That makes me super angry, but it is the only drugstore foundation I’ve been able to wear for the past year or so.

I’ve tried  a few others, but as lots of beauty bloggers have said before me, a lot of drug store foundation is really pink. I am not. Even though my cash situation is not great, I still daydream about the Nars Sheer Glow Foundation. I KNOW some of y’all are like bitch what? But, with powder and a good primer y’all, I had a big sample of it and it is just so gorgeous. It made me feel like a baby doll.

For a while I was a devout user of MUFE Matte Velvet. UNTIL I went to an event and had a flash photo taken and OMG…the ASH IT WAS REAL. I was mortified, though to be fair not a soul noticed even when I showed them. But yeah. It broke my heart. I’ve been eyeballing the UD All Nighter foundation, but their shade range… I am not sure I will have a good match. I might go grab a sample.

Right now I think I’m mostly daydreaming about having a perfect dolly face. Which means I’ll have to buy color corrector AND new concealer. But y’all know how it is.

Coming up soon I’ll review the pastel lavender wig I was wearing, we’ll have some struggle bus natural talk AND I’ll show y’all some of the stuff I use/wear that I will pay the extra coins for.

I love y’all.

Wig Review-Janet Collection Synthetic Hair Wig Helen

Okay my loves.

If you don’t know I’m growing my hair and using wigs as a protective style. I’m a HUGE wig lover and have a wee little collection and I wanted to do some reviews.

So let us begin.

First wig up on the block is the Janet Collection Synthetic adorable bob called Helen. I got her in the shade red velvet.

(Affiliate links in this post for Amazon AND I will be adding a wig section to my Amazon store cause what dream beauty supply wouldn’t have wigs?)

Here’s how the photo looked when I first saw her:

Okay, so here is a secret about me. Even though I’m on my way to growing out fairytale length hair, I LOVE a good sharp bob. I don’t know what it is but nothing makes me feel all Villanous Bad Bitch than a good bob. I picked the lovely bright red with black roots ombre and here is how she looked on me.

I KNOW my photos. Not the most awesome because my phone is hella old. Deal with it.

So right out the box I wasn’t super into the fullness of this wig. The density of the hair is fairly thinnish so I was a bit disappointed but, I think I only paid like 19 dollars or something for it so, why be mad?

The ONE thing that eventually became a deal breaker was the weird cap construction.

See here:

wigcap

Inside shot of a wig cap with two combs placed along a center part.

Okay, so here’s my issue with this. I wear wig caps and a wig slip (more on that later) if you are wearing a wig cap there’s no way to secure those combs comfortably. I tried it without my cap and wig slip on and I found it very uncomfortable and it pulled at the roots of my hair along my center part.

Also on this unit as a few other reviews I saw mentioned, the wig cap itself is a bit big. Good news if you have a poofier style underneath or if you have a big head. For me, after a few good wears it stretched out enough to be not as easily securable.

I did LOVE the color. Normally when I go for red hair I opt for more of a dark, or bloody type of red. Something blue based and deep. This color is way pinker than I’ve worn and I loved it.

So I’m going to give Helen 7/10. Beautiful color, decent hair quality. Though, I don’t go for realness. I don’t give a shit if people know it’s a wig. So if you want realness this hair was not real looking at all for people who know.

There wasn’t a whole lot of shedding and was really nice to wear for a few weeks.

Overall, if you want a good throw on style or if you want a back up wig this is a good one. This is a great wig to experiment with that cut shape or with some color.

Next time I’ll review a very popular wig and we’ll talk about how I decided I don’t mind fake ass hurr.
